No ducts needed
Ductless Mini-Splits in Melrose
Room-by-room heating and cooling without ductwork. One head or a whole house, placed carefully and sized to each space.
Heads Where They Belong
Many Melrose houses were built around radiators. No ducts, and no easy place to add them. Ductless mini-splits work around that. A slim bundle of copper tubing plus a drain links every indoor head to its condenser outside. The line set is the only thing that crosses the house, and we usually run it outside under a cover or through a closet. Heads come in three styles: high on the wall, low on the floor, or recessed in the ceiling. Each runs on its own, so the hot top-floor bedroom and the cold front parlor can finally be set separately. One head fixes one room. Several heads on one or more outdoor units can carry the whole house. Sizing matters more than people expect. A head too large for its room cycles on and off and feels drafty. A head sized to the room's heat loss runs low and steady, which is what makes ductless quiet. So every room gets measured, every head gets matched, and every placement gets agreed with you before drilling. Then startup, testing in both modes and a walkthrough of the remotes. Placement deserves its own sentence. In a Victorian bedroom with a bay window, the obvious wall is not always the right one; airflow, furniture and the line route all weigh in. We mark proposed spots with painter's tape during the visit so you can stand in the room and judge before anything is drilled. Changes at that stage cost nothing but a strip of tape.
